University Interscholastic League (UIL)

3RD GRADE – 12TH GRADE

San Felipe Del Rio CISD competes in the 5A Division of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) sponsored by the University of Texas at Austin.

The District starts this academic journey in the elementary grades with the following A+ Academic Events in grades 3-5:  Dictionary Skills, Music Memory, Number Sense, Oral Reading, Ready Writing and Spelling.  Each elementary campus practices with their UIL teams in the fall and then competes in our own District Elementary Meet in December.

The middle schools (grades 6-8) compete in two leagues in January - April: South Texas Academic and Literary League (STALL) and Texas Math & Science Coaches Association (TMSCA) with other middle schools in our region.  Those events are: Ready Writing, Oration, Poetry, Prose, Duet Pantomime, Solo Serious, Duet Serious, Solo Humorous, Duet Humorous, Math, Number Sense, Calculators, Maps/Charts/Graphs, Spelling, Science, and Social Studies.  Our middle schools consistently place in the top three at most of the meets they attend, and usually send students to the Tournament of Champions and Texas State Meet.

The high school academic UIL team competes with other 5A high schools in Accounting, Number Sense, Calculator Applications, Ready Writing, Social Studies, Literary Criticism, Current Events, Science, Math, Spelling, News Writing, Headline Writing, Editorial Writing, Feature Writing, Informative Speaking, Persuasive Speaking, Poetry and Prose Interpretation, One Act Play, Computer Science and Computer Applications.  Our dedicated UIL sponsors and coordinators work with their teams from September through May, and our students often place at District, Regional, and State.
