University Interscholastic League (UIL)

3rd Grade – 12th Grade

San Felipe Del Rio CISD takes pride in supporting UIL Academics and provides students in grades 3–12 with opportunities to participate in comprehensive academic and literary competitions. These activities complement the academic curriculum by motivating students to expand their knowledge, develop higher-level thinking skills, challenge themselves with issues of importance, and demonstrate mastery of specific skills.

San Felipe Del Rio CISD competes in the 5A Division of the University Interscholastic League (UIL), sponsored by The University of Texas at Austin.

Elementary UIL – Grades 3–5

The district begins students' UIL academic journey in the elementary grades through A+ Academic Events. Students participate in:

  • Number Sense

  • Oral Reading

  • Ready Writing

  • Spelling

  • Mathematics

  • Science

  • Maps, Graphs & Charts

Each elementary campus prepares its UIL teams during the fall before competing in the District Elementary Meet held annually in December.

Middle School UIL – Grades 6–8

Middle school students participate in academic and literary competitions through the South Texas Academic and Literary League (STALL) and the Texas Math & Science Coaches Association (TMSCA). Students compete in invitational meets throughout the San Antonio area and across the region from January through April.

Our middle school students consistently excel in competition, frequently placing among the top three at meets and advancing to the Tournament of Champions and Texas State Meet.

High School UIL – Grades 9–12

At the high school level, students compete against other 5A schools in a wide range of academic, literary, speech, journalism, theater, mathematics, and technology events.

Dedicated UIL sponsors and coordinators work with students throughout the competition season, from September through May. San Felipe Del Rio CISD students regularly demonstrate excellence at the District, Regional, and State levels.
