HVAC Students Receive Certification

Career and Technical Education (CTE) Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) Level 3 students have taken and passed the EPA Section 608 Certification Exam, receiving Universal Certification. EPA regulations under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act require that technicians who maintain, service, repair, or dispose of equipment that could release refrigerants into the atmosphere must be certified. The exam consists of four parts: Core, Type I (for servicing small appliances), Type II (for servicing residential equipment), and Type III (for servicing commercial equipment). Passing all four parts grants the technician Universal certification.   These students can obtain a Level 1 Certificate from SWTJC as part of this dual credit program of study. The HVAC program is one of the newest technical pathways at the Gerardo J. Maldonado CTE Center.
