CTE Middle School Students Visit Amistad Power Plant

Students in Ms. N. Winn’s 7th grade Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes spent weeks learning about Energy and the Environment. This topic is a unit in the Project Lead The Way (PLTW) curriculum that allows students to explore sustainable energy solutions and investigate the impact of energy on our lives. On Friday, January 12, 2024, students visited the Amistad Power Plant and Amistad Dam to learn about their daily operations. They learned how the dam is important for both Mexico and the U.S. for flood control, water conservation, hydroelectric power, and recreation. These middle students are enrolled in Gateway to Technology classes and part of the middle school STEM pre-engineering CTE program.
