Del Rio High School is expanding higher education opportunities for students with the start of P-TECH (Pathways in Technology Early College High School) through our Health Sciences CTE program. Through a partnership with Southwest Texas Junior College (SWTJC), students who enter DRHS Health Science Academy and the Health Science pathway will have the opportunity to earn a high school diploma, various college credit and explore career opportunities in the Health Sciences field. During their final year, students will have a change to participate in a Practicum/Clinical in one of four different areas - Certified Medical Assistant, Certified Nurse Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician or the Phlebotomy/EKG Technician.

DRHS Health Science Academy students will be able to:

  • Earn college credit hours in various core curriculum classes
  • Earn nationally recognized industry certifications in Health Sciences that will be used in their future careers
  • Engage in mentorships with Health Science professionals through our partnerships with Val Verde Regional Medical Center.
  • Experience hands-on training via clinical rotations at the hospital in order to become more familiar with their future career.
  • Transition to complete their Associate degree or Bachelor’s degree at the university level
