DRHS CTE Students Compete at SWTJC Criminal Justice Competition

Del Rio High School Law Dawgs competed in the 14th Annual SWTJC Criminal Justice Competition in Uvalde, Texas on April 26, 2019. The competition had events such as; Fingerprinting, Push-ups, Sit-ups, Pat down Frisk and Arrest, Felony Traffic Stop, Criminal Justice Quiz Bowl, Crime Scene, Domestic Violence, Building Search, 1 Mile relay and 100 Meter Run. The Del Rio Law Dawgs competed against 30 other schools such as; Stevens, Judson, Eagle Pass, Laredo and others to include US Customs Explorer Post and Border Patrol Explorers from the Texas area.

The Law Dawgs placed second in the Criminal Justice Quiz Bowl with members Akaza Flores-Santiago, Karina Palacios, Eleana Gavia and Amanda Rivera-Delgado. The Law Dawgs also took third place in the 100 Mile Relay with team members, Eloy Chavez, Damian Deang-Art, Hector Frausto, and Roy Talamantez-Elizondo.

Twenty eight members of the Law Dawgs attended the competition along with and  their Criminal Justice Dual Credit instructor Mr. Firo Santellanes, along with teacher chaperon Mrs. Ofelia Hernandez. These students are part of the Law Enforcement cluster in the growing CTE Program.
