CTE - Phlebotomy Program Tour
Phlebotomy students from the Career and Technical Education (CTE) program at Del Rio High School recently had the opportunity to tour Grifols Talecris Plasma Resources. This partnership allowed students to observe routines throughout the donation center such as the donor registration process, medical screenings, preparation for plasma donations and laboratory procedures. Phlebotomy instructor Dawnie Espinoza, RN, says “One of our goals at CTE is to ensure our students are career ready in their perspective field of interest by the time they graduate high school. With the help of Talecris Center Manager, Xavier Rodriguez, and his amazing staff, our students were able to see first-hand the possibility of a career in phlebotomy.” Students in the phlebotomy program at CTE have the opportunity to become a Nationally Certified Phlebotomy Technician, where they can apply the skills they’ve learned in the classroom to a career in the healthcare field. The Phlebotomy students also receive dual college credit through Southwest Texas Junior College and are part of the specialty Health Science cluster in the growing CTE program.
