What Is SHAC?
The Studentl Health Advisory Council (SHAC) is an advisory group comprised of individuals who represent segments of the community. The group acts collectively to provide advice and recommendations to the SFDR-CISD administration on aspects of the school district’s health program. The members of the SHAC are appointed by the School Board of Trustees.

The purpose of our schools is to provide a comprehensive educational opportunity that encompasses the intellectual growth, emotional health and physical wellness of our students, families, employees and community in a safe and nurturing environment. It is the SHAC’s goal to empower SFDR-CISD students, families, staff and community to actively participate in the safety, health and education provided in our community through strong leadership, open communication and advocacy for continuous improvement.

Meetings are facilitated by the Administrative Director (Mrs. Sandra Hernandez) and the Chief Financial Officer (Mrs. Amy Childress), and are held on the following dates:

One of the responsibilities of the SHAC is to assist in the development of district nutrition guidelines and wellness goals that are also in compliance with, or exceed, state and federal regulations. These guidelines should advance student health and reduce childhood obesity and promote the general wellness of students through nutrition education, physical activity, health safety awareness and other school-based activities.

Vending machines are not located in areas where reimbursable meals are served and/or consumed by students. Vending machines are not accessible to students at any time during the school day. This does not apply to after school or athletic event concession stands. A district may develop additional guidelines and may be more restrictive than the Texas Public School Nutrition Policy.
