Athletic Training

Del Rio Athletic Training is Sponsored

By Brad Dixon, Alan Davis and Chris Patterson.

Team Physician:  Antonio Cadena, Jr., MD (Family Practice)

Team Physician:  Gloria Box, MD (Orthopedics)

This program is for boys and girls, grades 7-12,  who enjoy helping others and like being around the sport setting.  It is primarily an after school program, but a new class is being offered at the high school during the 08-09 year called Sports Medicine I.  Sports Medicine I is an introduction to the Athletic Training field.

The High School Athletic Training Program is composed of 20 quality students, male and female, who have an interest in working with sports related injuries.  They work all sports.  Those with more senority get to pick the sports they wish to work.

Student Trainers travel with all sports and are the primary caregiver for athletes in the absence of a licensed trainer.  Their hard work, dedication and knowledge is what keeps Del Rio High School Athletics at the top of its game.

Brad Dixon is a 1987 graduate of Bryan High School, Texas A&M - College Station in 1992 with a BS in Kinesiology and Sam Houston State in 1994 with a Masters in Fitness Management.  He did his athletic training studies while at Sam Houston State.  Upon graduation he accepted a job with Huntsville Memorial Hospital to develope a Sports Medicine Outreach Program to service 4 nearby high schools who did not have athletic trainers.  In 1997 he accepted the Head Trainer job here at Del Rio High School and has worked to continue and improve the quality athletic training program he inherited.  Brad is married to Patricia Dixon who is a counselor at Cardwell Elementary.  They have 2 children, Mitchell and Derek.

Alan Davis enters his fourteenth year as an athletic trainer.  He received his Bachelor’s degree in education from Texas A&M University in 1993.  He previously has worked for Kermit ISD, Uvalde CISD, and Robinson ISD in Waco.  He is married to Amy Davis, a 1994 graduate of Texas A&M.  They have two children, Alexis, who is 11, and Austin, who is 8.  He enjoys hunting, fishing and golf in his spare time.
