Blended Academy

August 24, 2015, marked the opening of Blended Learning Academy as SFDRCISD’s newest school.  Dr. Rios, Superintendent of Schools, sought and received school board approval in the spring of 2015, to create a secondary campus designed to offer an innovative instructional program which would provide a personalized plan to meet the specific learning needs of students.

The inaugural group of 8th grade students attending Blended Learning Academy are enjoying smaller classes as well as a six period day.  The school is offering accelerated instruction for grade level courses with intensive academic support, enrichment through the use of guided instruction, technology applications, and character building activities.  These students also have the opportunity to accrue credit for high school graduation.

Blended Learning Academy also oversees the ACAP Program which supports older students who have not yet met graduation requirements but need to attend school on a flexible schedule in order to earn their diploma.  Future plans include offering classes for high school students (9th-12th grades) who would benefit from a non-traditional pathway leading to graduation.  This would include options for accelerated instruction and incorporation of self-paced learning where the student plays an important role in designing their educational plan.  The unique school setting promises to be a rewarding opportunity focused on student success.

The dedicated and caring staff of Blended Learning Academy includes:  Mr. David Gomez, Jr., Math teacher; Mrs. Pam Ochello, CTE Teacher; Ms. Dora Angulo, History Teacher; Mr. Alexander Menchaca, Science Teacher, Mrs. Cindy Johnson-Hunkin, ELA Teacher, and Mrs. Mariza Sanchez, Reading Teacher; Ms. Wendy Hinsey, ACAP ELA Teacher; Mrs. Ayde Davis, ACAP Math Teacher; Mrs. Lolis Zylka, Parental Aide; Ms. Delia Antu, Attendance Clerk; Mrs. Maricela Rivera, ACAP Secretary; and Mr. George Avalos, SFDRCISD Security Officer.  The campus is led by Mrs. Alma Flores, Principal, who is assisted by Miss Alda Zuniga, ACAP Counselor and Mrs. Carolina Cardenas, Counselor.
